Spiral rollers, also called rubber spiral rollers or steel spiral rollers, are a special type of roller used in conveyor belt systems. Unlike standard smooth rollers, spiral rollers have a continuous helical (screw-like) pattern on their surface. This unique design is primarily used to clean the return side of the conveyor belt and assist with belt tracking.
Spiral/Screw Pattern: The most notable feature is the continuous helical pattern (similar to threads) molded into the surface of the roller. This pattern can be made of rubber (for general cleaning and conveyor belt protection) or steel (for more aggressive cleaning in heavy-duty applications).
Rotational Cleaning Action: As the conveyor belt moves over the spiral roller, the spiral pattern causes the roller to rotate. This rotation, combined with the angled nature of the "threads", helps to clean and remove sticky or abrasive material that may adhere to the underside of the belt (called "back-stripping").
Belt Tracking Aid: The spiral structure also allows the belt to self-center. If the belt begins to stray, the angled design of the spiral cleverly guides it back to center, aiding in overall belt tracking.
